SCPA NSW will again be presenting School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day, a day to recognise and celebrate the unique role school counsellors and school psychologists play in supporting students, families and schools. This year's Recognition Day will take place on Friday 8th November 2024.

The 2024 Recognition Day theme 'Little Moments, Lasting Change' celebrates the impact school counsellors and psychologists have on students and school communities. It highlights their thoughtful and persistent efforts in navigating tough moments, often through seemingly small yet significant actions that contribute to the resilience and growth of young people.

Schools, organisations and individuals can join SCPA NSW in recognising school counsellors and school psychologists by using our resource pack to advocate for the importance of counselling and psychology services within schools.

You can also show your support for the school counselling and psychology service by nominating an outstanding school counsellor or school psychologist for an SCPA NSW annual award, showcasing exemplary contributions to the field. Award winners will be announced and celebrated at the SCPA NSW Summit on November 6th 2024.

School counsellors and psychologists are essential for providing students with the right support at all stages of their schooling journey. By participating in Recognition Day, you and your school or organisation can join in with our mission to enhance our school counselling and psychology workforce to better serve our students.

The history of Recognition Day:

Recognition Day

SCPA NSW encourages schools and organisations to come together and celebrate School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day.

Just three years ago, in 2021, SCPA NSW launched School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day with a single purpose in mind: to honour the incredible work done by school counsellors and school psychologists within school communities.

Our 2022 theme was "Contribution, Collaboration, Care" acknowledging that school counsellors and school psychologists don't work in isolation; they are an essential part of the school team. Recognition day is an opportunity for their colleagues and the entire school community to express gratitude for their dedication.

Our 2023 theme was "Listen, Connect, Empower" acknowledging the unique skills and role school counsellors and school psychologists have in supporting students and school communities to reach their full potential. It was so exciting to see participation grow exponentially, with thanks to the schools and organisations that got involved!

Our hope is that this day allows school counsellors and school psychologists to savour the invaluable contributions they are making, and have made, in schools across NSW and school communities to get behind them in their work.

Whether it's a simple thank you message, a morning tea celebration, or a special mention in the school newsletter, every gesture counts.

School counsellors and school psychologists - your work truly matters, and we're here to celebrate you!

To make this day even more special, we invite you to share the joy of your celebrations with us. Send photos of your School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day festivities to info@scpansw.org.au. With your permission, we'd love to feature your moments of appreciation and recognition on our platforms.
